Severe Storms Headed This Way? No Problem.
With Us, Your Roof Is Safe.
Why We Use Only Class-3 And Class-4 Shingles
Here’s the thing: If you live here in the Tulsa area, you know… tornadoes simply happen! In 2019, there was a record-setting number of tornadoes in Oklahoma, with 149 touching down. In 2024, that record was broken… with a whopping 152 tornadoes.
Now, while we can’t stop tornadoes and hailstorms, we can make sure your roof is built to reliably withstand them through our “Gold Standard” roofs.
At GoldenRite Roofing, we install COMPLETE storm-ready roofing systems using Class-3 and Class-4 shingles that are designed to resist high winds and damaging hail. And with installation handled by our GAF Master Elite certified team, you can trust your roof WILL last… no matter what Oklahoma weather (literally) throws at it.
The Different Shingle Classifications (And Why They Matter)
What are the different classes of roofing shingles? Well, in total, there are four classifications:
- Class-1 Shingles: These offer basic protection, but they can easily crack or break under hail impact. They’re NOT recommended in storm-prone areas like Tulsa.
- Class-2 Shingles: These are slightly more durable than Class-1 shingles, but they’re not considered “impact resistant.” They may offer limited resistance to small hail, but they’re not 100% reliable.
- Class-3 Shingles: These ARE impact resistant. They’ve been proven to withstand a 1.75-inch steel ball dropped from 17 feet, and they’re great for areas with moderate storm activity.
- Class-4 Shingles: These are the BEST shingles for hail and high-wind areas. They’re proven to withstand a 2-inch steel ball dropped from 20 feet. Due to their durability, homeowners who choose them are often eligible for home insurance discounts.
In Tulsa, where hail and high winds are constant, you should ONLY consider a company that uses Class-3 and Class-4 shingles.
Four Reasons We Use Only Impact-Resistant Shingles
At GoldenRite Roofing, quality always has and always will come first, which is how we’ve become a top 2% roofer. And we insist on installing AT LEAST Class-3 or Class-4 shingles. Here are a few reasons why:
#1. They’re Proven To Withstand Hail
GAF shingles are battle-tested. They’re put through incredible impact testing that involves the use of steel balls to simulate hail. If they crack, dent, or break under during the test, then they’re NOT impact-resistant, and they’re NOT Class-3 or Class-4. All the shingles we use have passed the impact tests with flying colors.
#2. They Hold Up Against Tulsa Wind
Whether it’s just a super-windy day or one of the many Oklahoma tornadoes hits your area, you need the most durable shingles. Ours are specifically crafted to withstand winds up to 130 mph. And cheap, Class-2 shingles that are offered by other Tulsa roofers? They blow off when heavy windstorms hit.
#3. They Save You Money In The Long Run
We won’t sugarcoat it — our impact-resistant shingles cost more upfront. But they last longer and are far more durable than basic shingles. You’ll enjoy fewer repairs, decades without needing to replace, and possibly lower insurance premiums. So, while they’re not the cheapest initially, they’re the smartest investment you can make long-term.
#4. They Look Just As Good As They Perform
Thicker, more durable shingles don’t mean they look clunky… not the least bit. They’re every bit as stylish as less-resistant shingles. Plus, since we’ve partnered with GAF and earned their coveted Master Elite status, we can offer dozens of style and color options for a customized look every time.
