My Path To Roofing Was A Bit…. Unusual. Here’s My Story.
Hi, my name is Harrison Mendez, the incredibly proud owner and founder of GoldenRite Roofing. And I would love to take a couple of minutes to tell you about our company… and how I ended up the owner of a Tulsa roofing company (it still feels weird to say).

You Can’t Pay Down $40K In Student Debt As A Roofer… Can You?
Like everyone, I’ve had some ups and downs in my life — some good times and good decisions and some bad times and bad decisions.
One of the good decisions? Going to Oklahoma Christian University and following my childhood passion — baseball. I had an absolute blast and learned a lot that I still apply to my profession (and my life) today. But with that, quite literally, came a price… $40K.
So, after college, I had two options:
- Accept a roofing job with a friend (preferred)
- Become a pharmaceutical rep and make more money
So, I did the responsible thing and took a job as a pharmaceutical sales rep. Did I have a passion for selling people questionable medications with some rather serious potential side effects? Absolutely not. But it was my reality. I denied my true passion of working with my hands and sat behind a desk instead. After all, that’s where the money was (or so I thought).
I continually met quota after quota. And I even landed a big-time job with one of the world’s top biopharmaceutical companies — AstraZeneca. I felt I was on my way to “success…” until I wasn’t.
Then, In 2017, The Best Thing In The World Happened: I Got Fired!
Sure, at the time, getting fired didn’t feel like “the best thing in the world.” In fact, it felt like quite the opposite! I was upset, scared, and frankly, a bit desperate to find a new job… FAST.
So, I called up my friend and asked if the roofing opportunity was still available. Fortunately, it was! It took me about two days to see that I LOVED it, and I could actually help local Tulsa homeowners. I could make a POSITIVE difference, a feeling that I certainly never felt with my past job.
In 2019, I Branched Out And Started GoldenRite Roofing
I’m forever indebted to my friend for introducing me to roofing. He taught me so much. And, after a while, it became clear that my calling and enthusiasm were leading me to start my own company. So, I did.
